- Sleepers who prefer responsive and supportive mattresses. The Pure Green Mattress is made from naturally responsive latex, which also feels very supportive for sleepers – especially when the surface has a firm feel. This creates a feeling of sleeping “on” – as opposed to sleeping “in”– the mattress.
- Couples. The 9-inch Pure Green Mattress isolates motion very well compared to other latex beds, and all versions of the mattress are virtually silent when bearing weight. These attributes make the Pure Green Mattress suitable for people who awaken easily due to their sleep partner’s movements.
- Value seekers. Pure Green Mattress models are exceptionally low-priced compared to other all-latex beds.
- Eco-conscious mattress shoppers. The mattresses are made from organic wool and cotton, natural latex, and other sustainably sourced materials.
Not Recommended for...
- Sleepers who enjoy close body-conforming. The Pure Green Mattress conforms a bit – especially models with a soft feel – but it does not offer the same deep, pressure-relieving body cradle as beds with memory foam or polyfoam comfort layers.
Ratings Summary
Our testing team conducted an extensive evaluation of the Pure Green Mattress from Sleep on Latex. Our review and rating process consists of three parts: in-house evaluation, external sleep testing, and data collection of verified owner experiences. To learn more about our review process, read our methodology here.
Our performance criteria and ratings for the bed are listed in the table below.
As you can see, the Pure Green Mattress excels in certain performance areas, such as durability, pressure relief, and motion isolation, but ratings for the 9-inch model are a bit different from the 7-inch model’s ratings. For a closer look at each rating, check out our full breakdown below.

How Is the Pure Green Mattress Constructed?
Cover
The 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models both feature covers made from 100 percent organic cotton, which has a soft and stretchy feel. The material is GOTS-certified, meaning pesticides and synthetic chemicals are not used in the manufacturing process.
Comfort Layers
The 9-inch Pure Green Mattress is constructed with a top 1-inch layer of batting made from GOTS-certified New Zealand wool. This material is naturally breathable and has moisture-wicking properties. It is also flame-resistant, and serves as the bed’s fire barrier. This component is followed by 2 inches of natural Dunlop latex, which is ventilated for added airflow.
Indentation load deflection, or ILD, is a measurement of how soft or firm a mattress layer feels. For the soft and medium 9-inch models, the latex comfort layer has an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 20, indicating a relatively soft feel. The firm model’s latex layer has an ILD of 34 and feels much firmer by comparison.
The 7-inch Pure Green Mattress includes the top 1-inch layer of organic, flame-resistant wool batting, but does not contain a latex comfort layer.
Support Layers
The 7-inch and 9-inch models have support cores that consist of 6 inches of ventilated, natural Dunlop latex. In order to provide good overall stability for the mattress, this support latex is much firmer than the latex found in the 9-inch bed’s comfort system.
The ILD of the support core also varies by the bed’s firmness level. The support latex in soft 7-inch and 9-inch models has an ILD of 24, indicating a mid-level feel. For the medium Pure Green Mattress, the support latex has an ILD of 34, which is considered fairly firm. Lastly, the support core in firm 7-inch and 9-inch models has an ILD of 44, and feels exceptionally firm.
Mattress Height
The Pure Green Mattress may measure 7 or 9 inches thick, depending on which model the customer selects. Both are considered low-profile models. These mattresses sacrifice comfort layer thickness for more latex in the base layer. As a result, the Pure Green Mattress feels exceptionally supportive and responsive.
Low-profile mattresses keep sleepers close to the ground and are particularly well-suited for sleeping areas with limited space, such as RVs and bunk beds. They also tend to be fit better on adjustable beds. However, higher-profile mattresses also have their advantages. They are less likely to bottom out, for one, and larger people often have an easier time getting on and off thicker beds.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
Both versions of the Pure Green Mattress have a distinct feel due to differences in their construction. The 7-inch model feels very supportive and responsive. Although customers can choose from three firmness options ranging from soft to firm, the mattress offers little to no body-conforming due to the absence of a comfort layer. This model is optimal for people who prefer sleeping “on” – as opposed to “in” – the mattress.
The 9-inch model provides closer body-conforming than its 7-inch counterpart. This is particularly true for the soft and medium feels. However, the Pure Green Mattress is also fairly bouncy due to the natural responsiveness of latex. The mattress provides a floating feeling of sleeping “on” the mattress, but the soft and medium models will conform a bit more closely to the body than the firm model.
Ratings Breakdown
Performance Ratings
Next, let’s take an in-depth look at our performance ratings for the 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models. These ratings are based on findings from our internal and external testing teams, as well as experiences from verified Sleep on Latex owners.
Durability
Sleep on Latex has been in business since 2013, and the Pure Green Mattress has been available to the public for about five years. We have not had enough time to evaluate this model across the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating for the Pure Green Mattress is based on its quality of materials and construction, owner experiences, and Sleep on Latex’s overall reputation.
We expect the 9-inch Pure Green Mattress to perform for about seven to seven and a half years before a replacement is needed. This expected lifespan is on par with the average latex model, but longer than average for all mattress types. Latex is a naturally durable substance that withstands wear and tear better than mattress foam, minimizing deep sagging, body impressions, and other issues that can warrant a mattress replacement.
The 7-inch Pure Green Mattress has a shorter expected lifespan – about seven years. This model is less durable due to its lower profile, which makes the mattress more susceptible to bottoming out and sagging. This issue may be exacerbated by the owner’s body type, as heavier people often bottom out on lower-profile models.
To preserve the surface of a Pure Green Mattress, we recommend rotating the bed head-to-foot every three to six months. For the 7-inch model, a mattress topper may also be used to prevent bottoming out and minimize wear and tear.
Motion Isolation
To evaluate the Pure Green Mattress for motion isolation, we asked two testers to lie side-by-side on both the 7-inch and 9-inch models. One tester moved around while the other felt for motion transferring across the surface. During this test, the 9-inch Pure Green Mattress demonstrated very good motion isolation.
Although the mattress is fairly responsive, the latex absorbs movement and reduces a significant amount of transfer. The 7-inch mattress also isolates some motion, but did not reduce as much transfer due to its more responsive feel.
All-latex mattresses typically offer mid-level motion isolation. Latex is too responsive to completely eliminate transfer like memory foam or soft polyfoam, but the mattresses isolate motion better than hybrids and innersprings, both of which are often quite bouncy due to their coil systems.
Off-Gassing
Our testers noticed some initial odor when unboxing the 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models. However, these smells had completely dissipated when they re-evaluated the beds a few days later.
Odor potential is normally low for all-latex beds. Latex does emit heavy off-gassing like memory foam or polyfoam, and the latex layers are often ventilated to promote steady airflow and clear out unwanted smells.
Pressure Relief
To evaluate the Pure Green Mattress for pressure relief, our testers took turns lying on a sensory pad that tracks pressure build-up in the shoulders, hips, and other sensitive areas. The testers also switched positions to see if pressure increased or decreased on their sides, back, or stomach.
The 9-inch model alleviated pressure for most testers, though their experience depended somewhat on the selected firmness. The soft model offers the most cushioning for the sleeper’s shoulders and hips, which can help align the spine for lighter side sleepers.
The medium model conforms a bit but also maintains even support, making it best suited to average weight sleepers. Lastly, the firm model conforms to a very minimal extent. Heavier back and stomach sleepers noted the most pressure relief due to its exceptionally supportive feel.
According to our testers, the 7-inch model did not alleviate pressure as well as its 9-inch counterpart. The mattress provides less conforming, and lighter individuals – side sleepers in particular – will not experience as much body-contouring, and more pressure may occur. Heavier sleepers are also at greater risk of bottoming out and experiencing pressure in the hips as a result.
Temperature Neutrality
The 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models both exhibited adequate temperature neutrality during our tests. Although latex usually does not sleep as warm as polyfoam or memory foam, the material can trap body heat for some sleepers.
The latex found in the Pure Green Mattress is ventilated, which helps to promote steady airflow and keep the mattress at a reasonable temperature. That said, the mattress does not circulate air as well as most competing latex hybrids with open coil systems.
Edge Support
Our testers evaluated the 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models for edge support by sitting along the perimeter as an owner might do when getting in and out of bed. During this test, the 9-inch mattress sank a bit but the testers felt reasonably secure – especially on the firm model. When sitting on the 7-inch mattress, testers experienced more sinkage and felt less stable.
The testers also took turns lying near the edges of the mattress to check for feelings of “roll-off.” Again, models with the firmer feel provided more stability for those sleeping near the edges than the soft or medium feels.
Noise
Both the 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models remained completely silent during all of our tests. This is typical for all-latex mattresses because they lack internal components often associated with disruptive noises, such as springs found in innersprings and hybrids, or motorized air chambers found in airbeds.
Because it isolates motion fairly well and does not make any noise, we recommend the Pure Green Mattress to anyone who awakens easily due to their sleep partner’s movements during the night.
Sex
The all-latex Pure Green Mattress is fairly responsive. This makes it suitable for couples who prefer springier beds. However, both the 9-inch and 7-inch models have fairly low profiles, and this leaves them susceptible to bottoming out during sex. Limited edge support also prevents some couples from utilizing the entire surface of the mattress, particularly on the 7-inch model.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, our team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
We asked mattress testers in different weight groups to evaluate the 7-inch and 9-inch Pure Green Mattress. The best overall ratings for both versions of the mattress came from our lightweight testers. Side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds felt very comfortable on both beds with soft or medium feels.
The latex cushioned their shoulders and hips to help align the spine and reduce pressure points. The firm models were not as comfortable because they do not conform as closely.
Back sleepers also awarded very good ratings to both Pure Green Mattress models. These testers mostly preferred the medium feel, which provides a good balance of body-conforming and support. Back sleepers in this weight group experience some contouring, but the mattress does not sag too much.
Lightweight stomach sleepers also agreed, though they felt more comfortable on the medium-feel 7-inch model. The 9-inch model sagged a bit more beneath their midsection, and this affected how supportive the mattress felt.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
Our average weight side and back sleepers gave very favorable ratings to the 9-inch Pure Green Mattress – particularly the medium-feel model. Side sleepers noted good cushioning for their shoulders and hips, as well as great overall support to keep their spines aligned. For back sleepers, the mattress maintained an even plane for their bodies while conforming to a noticeable degree.
Side, back, and stomach sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds did not feel as comfortable on the 7-inch Pure Green Mattress. This model was a bit too short for their liking, and some noticed the mattress bottoming out in places. Average weight stomach sleepers also experienced the same issues with the 9-inch Pure Green Mattress.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Our heavyweight side and back sleepers reported the best support from firm, 9-inch Pure Green Mattress models. Although these beds do not conform closely or alleviate very much pressure, they maintained an even plane for side and back sleepers without excessive sagging.
Side and back sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds are much more likely to bottom out on the 7-inch model, even if it has a firm feel. Despite the natural durability and responsiveness of latex, this model’s lower profile makes it much better suited to lighter individuals. Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, noted excessive sagging around the midsection on both the 7-inch and 9-inch models – a common issue associated with this position.

How Does the Pure Green Mattress Compare to Other Beds?
We encourage all mattress shoppers to compare different brands and models in order to determine which bed is best for them. In this next section, we’ll see how the Pure Green Mattress stacks up to some all-latex models from other major brands.
Pure Green Mattress vs. Avocado Green
The Avocado Green is a latex hybrid model. The mattress contains comfort and transitional layers made of natural Dunlop latex, along with 8-inch pocketed coils that give the mattress exceptional support and responsiveness.
The Avocado Green is available in a standard 11-inch profile, which has a firm feel, or a 13-inch pillow-top profile with a slightly softer medium-firm feel. These options allow customers to select their preferred option, but the Pure Green Mattress offers a wider selection to accommodate more buyers across different body types and preferred sleep positions.
The Avocado Green outperforms the Pure Green Mattress in other areas. Its pocketed coils circulate air very well, resulting in excellent temperature neutrality, while the thick coils ensure very strong edge support and minimal sinkage.
The Pure Green Mattress is considered a top-value mattress due to its very low price-point, whereas the Avocado Green’s price is more comparable to the average all-latex or latex hybrid model. Costs aside, the Pure Green Mattress offers more firmness options, but sleepers will likely feel more supported on the Avocado Green due to its higher profile and robust coil system.

Pure Green Mattress vs. EcoCloud
The EcoCloud by WinkBeds is a hybrid constructed with 4 inches of Talalay latex over a pocketed coil support core. The EcoCloud has a medium-firm feel and feels very responsive, creating a combined feeling of sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the mattress.
The EcoCloud promotes steady airflow through its coil layer to maintain a comfortable temperature. As a result, it sleeps a bit cooler than the Pure Green Mattress. Sturdy coils also reinforce the edges against sinkage very well, giving the EcoCloud better edge support. On the other hand, the all-latex Pure Green Mattress is much quieter than the EcoCloud and the 9-inch version also isolates more motion, making this model a better option for couples.
The EcoCloud is considerably more expensive than either version of the Pure Green Mattress, but it also offers stronger overall support and better temperature neutrality. Some shoppers will no doubt choose the Pure Green Mattress based on cost alone, but those seeking a balance of body-conforming and responsiveness should choose the EcoCloud instead.

Pure Green Mattress vs. EcoSleep
The EcoSleep by Brooklyn Bedding is a flippable latex hybrid with natural latex comfort layers and a shared pocketed coil support core. One side has a medium-firm feel, while the other side is firm. These firmer feels make the mattress best suited for sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds.
The EcoSleep’s thick coils provide very strong edge support, and they also promote strong airflow to keep the mattress at a cool, comfortable temperature. Additionally, the EcoSleep offers excellent responsiveness for sex. However, the 9-inch Pure Green outperforms the EcoSleep in other performance categories, such as motion isolation and pressure relief. The 7-inch model is more comparable to the EcoSleep in these categories.
The EcoSleep is very low-priced for a latex hybrid, but the Pure Green Mattress still costs much less. The Pure Green Mattress is available in a wider firmness selection, ensuring most shoppers can find a model that suits their body type and sleep position, while the flippable EcoSleep provides more night-to-night versatility for heavier individuals.

Pure Green Mattress vs. Latex for Less
Like the Pure Green Mattress, the all-latex Latex for Less Mattress is available in 7-inch and 9-inch profiles. This mattress is a flippable model. One side has a medium-firm feel, while the other side is firm.
The Latex for Less Mattress and the 9-inch Pure Green Mattress have earned comparable ratings in most performance categories. Both beds isolate motion and reduce transfer reasonably well, and do not produce any noise. They also alleviate a fair amount of pressure for sleepers and provide consistent temperature neutrality.
However, the Latex for Less Mattress is best suited to those who weigh at least 130 pounds, while the Pure Green Mattress offers three different firmness options to ensure most sleepers across all weight groups can find a comfortable model.
The Latex for Less Mattress costs considerably more than the Pure Green Mattress, but it may be the best option for heavier people who enjoy the versatility of a flippable mattress. For those who weigh less than 130 pounds, or people who would rather have a fixed firmness for their bed, we recommend the Pure Green Mattress instead.

Pure Green Mattress vs. PlushBeds Botanical Bliss
The Botanical Bliss from PlushBeds is a luxury mattress constructed with comfort, transitional, and support layers of natural Dunlop latex, along with a top layer of organic wool. The mattress is available in 9-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch profiles, as well as medium and firm feels.
This model selection makes the Botanical Bliss comparable to the Pure Green Mattress in terms of suitability for different body types and sleep positions. These mattresses share other similarities, as well. Both regulate temperature reasonably well to keep sleepers cool, and alleviate more pressure than many competing all-latex beds. Like the 7-inch Pure Green Mattress, the Botanical Bliss offers minimal edge support and tends to sink when people sit along the perimeter.
Botanical Bliss mattresses are fairly pricey, even for all-latex models, and the Pure Green Mattress costs much less by comparison. Budget-minded shoppers will likely choose the Pure Green Mattress, but those who prefer thicker beds that conform to the body a bit more may want to choose the Botanical Bliss instead – particularly a medium 10-inch or 12-inch model.

Pure Green Mattress vs. Zenhaven
The Zenhaven by Saatva is another flippable, all-latex mattress. One side has a medium-soft feel and the other is firm, creating a distinct feel for both comfort layers. The mattress also has a shared, 6-inch support core.
Like the Pure Green Mattress, the Zenhaven alleviates pressure very well for sleepers. The medium-soft side is optimal for side sleepers, lighter people, and others who enjoy closer body-conforming, while the firm side conforms much less and is better suited to heavier back and stomach sleepers.
The Zenhaven also sleeps reasonably cool and isolates motion better than many competing all-latex models. Edge support is a drawback of both the Zenhaven and the Pure Green Mattress, as neither model reinforces the perimeter against sinkage very well.
The Zenhaven is much more expensive, but shoppers should note the mattress qualifies for free White Glove delivery – including in-home assembly and old mattress removal – in the contiguous U.S. The low price-point of the Pure Green Mattress will no doubt entice some shoppers, but the Zenhaven is the better option for those who like flippable beds, as well as sleepers seeking closer body-conforming from their latex mattress.
