The Bottom Line.

  • The mattress is available in four firmness and three thickness options.
  • The Natural Bliss is considered vegan by some standards since it contains no wool or other animal products.

PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress Overview

PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress Overview

PlushBeds is a California-based company that launched in 2007. The company specializes in luxury mattresses, but it also sells other sleep products. The mattress line includes two latex mattresses, one latex hybrid mattress, three memory foam mattresses, three sofa bed mattresses, and four RV mattresses. PlushBeds also offers mattress toppers, adjustable beds, bedding, bed frames, and foundations.

The PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress is one of the company’s two latex models. The construction varies between firmness and thickness options, though they both use natural latex and organic cotton. The Natural Bliss offers four firmness options: Soft (3.5), Medium (5.5), Medium-Firm (6), and Extra-Firm (7.5). The mattress is available in three thickness options: 6 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches.

In this review, we’ll share in-depth information on the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress, including its construction, pricing, and performance. We’ll also compare the Natural Bliss to several similar mattresses and give an overview of the company’s policies on shipping, returns, and warranties.

  • Couples with varying preferences. Since the Natural Bliss Mattress earned strong marks from our testers across weight groups and sleep positions, it may be a good option for partners with different sleep styles.
  • Customers looking for an eco-friendly option. The PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress uses natural latex and organic cotton. Since it is free of wool and other animal products, it can also be considered vegan.
  • People who want a mattress that will last. Latex mattresses tend to be exceptionally durable, and we would expect the Natural Bliss’s high-quality materials to hold up well over time. The 25-year limited warranty offers additional protection.

Not Recommended for...

  • Sleepers looking for the hug of memory foam. Latex’s low point elasticity spreads weight across a wider surface area, so it is likely to feel like you’re sleeping “on” the mattress rather than “in” the mattress.
  • People who prefer a high profile model. The thickest Natural Bliss option is 10 inches, which is about average.

Ratings Summary

Our testing team conducted an extensive evaluation of the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress. Our review and rating process consists of three parts: in-house evaluation, overnight sleep testing, and data collection of verified owner experiences. To learn more about our review process, read our methodology here.

Our performance criteria and ratings for the bed are listed in the table below.

Our testers gave the PlushBeds Natural Bliss strong ratings across all our performance categories. The Natural Bliss really stood out in the durability, noise, and off-gassing categories. For more details on our sleeper ratings, see below.

Sleep Position Ratings

As part of our ratings process, we evaluated the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress across different body types and preferred sleep positions. In addition to physical testing, we surveyed our sleep expert team and analyzed reviews from verified mattress owners and customers. Our findings are listed in the table below.

For more information on sleeping positions please see our guides for side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers.

PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress Awards

Due to performance during our product testing, the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress has earned the following awards in our mattress guides:

How Is the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress Constructed?

Cover

The Natural Bliss Mattress’s cover is constructed of organic cotton. This cover is lightweight and flexible to move with the latex below without restricting its movement and contouring.

Underneath the cotton cover, there is a plant-based, proprietary fire barrier.

Comfort Layers

The configuration of the comfort layer varies between models. The 8-inch option uses a 2-inch layer of Talalay latex, while the 10-inch model uses two 2-inch layers of Talalay latex. Talalay latex offers springiness and pressure relief.

The 6-inch model uses a 3-inch layer of Dunlop latex, which resists body impressions while providing support.

Additionally, you can unzip the cover to reposition the layers, which adjusts the feel. Queen, king, and California king sizes are also available with split layers, allowing you to customize the feel of each side of the bed.

Support Layers

Regardless of the firmness and the thickness the customer selects, the Natural Bliss Mattress uses Dunlop latex in the support layer. This denser latex offers stable support while resisting deterioration and indentations. The 8-inch and 10-inch versions of the mattress use 6 inches of the material, while the 6-inch version uses a 3-inch slab as the support layer.

Mattress Height

The Natural Bliss Mattress is available in three height options: 6 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches. The 6-inch and 8-inch versions can be considered low-profile, while the 10-inch option is about average. The 10-inch model offers a thicker comfort layer than many mattresses, providing extra pressure relief. The 8-inch version uses a thinner comfort layer, so sleepers may not experience as much cradling. The 6-inch option uses a thinner support layer. Due to the reduced support system, the 6-inch model may be most appropriate for sleepers who weigh under 225 pounds.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?

The Natural Bliss comes in four firmness options: Soft (3.5), Medium (5.5), Medium-Firm (6), and Extra-Firm (7.5). Additionally, the firmness can be adjusted by unzipping the mattress cover and repositioning the foam slabs.

Across all firmness options, our testers felt like they were sleeping “on” the bed rather than “in” the bed. Latex has low point elasticity, which means it spreads compression across the surface rather than compressing directly under a sleeper’s weight. While the softer mattress options cradled our testers more closely, none of the firmness or thickness options offered the hug often associated with memory foam.

Our testers noted a buoyant feel and extra conforming in the 8-inch and 10-inch models due to the Talalay comfort layers. They felt the 6-inch option’s use of a Dunlop latex comfort layer gave it a sturdy, even feel with less conforming.

Ratings Breakdown

Performance Ratings

Durability

We would expect the PlusBeds Natural Bliss Mattress to have an exceptionally long lifespan due to its materials and construction.

Latex mattresses tend to resist wear and tear, extending the usable life of the mattress. Natural latex is particularly durable. The Natural Bliss Mattress uses exclusively natural latex, thus lending well to the mattress’s overall durability.

The 25-year limited warranty provides additional reassurance.

Motion Isolation

We had two testers lie on the Natural Bliss Mattress at the same time. While one of them rolled around, the other felt for motion. The latter tester noticed some vibrations across the surface of the mattress but thought the mattress limited the overall motion transfer.

Our external testers who sleep with partners came to the same conclusion. They noted some motion transfer when their sleep partners changed position or got into or out of bed, but they felt this wasn’t significant enough to interrupt their sleep.

Since latex tends to transfer more motion than memory foam due to its bounciness and low point elasticity, these results are consistent with what we’d expect from most latex mattresses.

Off-Gassing

Upon unboxing the Natural Bliss Mattress, our sleep testers noted that it was nearly odorless. They revisited the mattress after 24 hours and found that they could no longer detect any smell.

Pressure Relief

To evaluate the Natural Bliss, we placed a sensory pad that measures pressure-build up on the mattress and asked sleepers from different weight groups to lie on it. The results showed that the Natural Bliss Mattress provided fairly even cradling without the hugging sensation of memory foam.

While our testers generally felt the Natural Bliss provided good pressure relief, firmness preferences varied between weight groups. Our sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds experienced some pressure in their hips and shoulders when lying on the firmer models, so they preferred the extra cradling of the soft and medium options. Our testers who weigh over 230 pounds noted that their midsections sunk in too deeply in softer models, so they favored the medium-firm and extra-firm versions of the mattress.

Temperature Neutrality

Our testers who tend to sleep hot thought the Natural Bliss Mattress offered very good temperature neutrality. Since latex comfort layers don’t hug the body like memory foam, it doesn’t trap as much. Additionally, the open cell structure of natural latex pulls heat away from the body and allows it to dissipate with cooling airflow.

Edge Support

Our sleep testers from different weight groups sat near the perimeter of the Natural Bliss to test whether the edge felt supportive. All of our testers felt the edge was relatively supportive, though our testers who weigh over 230 pounds felt less secure than our other weight groups.

When our testers lied near the perimeter of the bed, they noticed some compression, but not enough to make them feel like they might accidentally roll off the edge. However, our testers who weighed over 230 pounds felt less stable. While we would expect most sleepers to find the edge of the Natural Bliss Mattress sufficiently supportive, some may feel the edge is slightly too weak to allow them to use the full mattress surface.

Noise

Our sleep testers did notice any sounds coming from the Natural Bliss Mattress, even when they changed position and got into or out of bed. Given that latex mattresses tend to wear well, we would expect the Natural Bliss to remain virtually silent for the duration of its lifespan. Sleepers who are easily awoken by mattress noises may enjoy the whisper-quiet Natural Bliss.

Sex

Both Dunlop and Talalay latex have some natural bounce, which many couples find beneficial for sexual activity. Couples who prefer extra bounce may prefer the 8-inch and/or 10-inch versions of the mattress. These options use Talalay latex in their comfort layers, which has a slightly springier feel than Dunlop latex.

The Natural Bliss has sturdier edges than many all-latex and all-foam models on the market, so most couples should be able to use more of the mattress’s surface. Since the Natural Bliss is virtually silent, it is quite discreet.

Sleeper Ratings

Mattress preferences can be influenced by many factors, including a sleeper’s body weight and favored sleep position. We tested the Natural Bliss Mattress with sleepers with different proportions and position preferences to get a clearer idea of how weight and sleep position may impact the Natural Bliss Mattress’s perceived performance.

Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.

Our lightweight sleep testers felt the Natural Bliss Mattress performed well for all sleep positions, especially back and stomach sleeping. They particularly enjoyed the soft and medium firmness options.

The soft option was most popular with our side sleepers. This firmness provided enough contouring to reduce pressure points. The medium version also provided some pressure relief, but our lightweight testers felt the medium-firm and extra-firm options did not allow them to sink in enough to experience cradling.

When sleeping on their backs or stomachs, our lightweight testers appreciated that the even surface prevented their midsections from sinking in too far. All of the firmness options rated well for our lightweight back and stomach sleepers, but they still preferred the soft and medium mattresses, which they felt provided more cushioning.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.

Our average-weight sleep testers gave the Natural Bliss Mattress the best marks of any of our weight groups, favoring the medium and medium-firm versions.

When sleeping on the sides, our average-weight testers found that the Natural Bliss allowed their hips and shoulders to sink in enough for better spinal alignment while relieving pressure points. When sleeping on their backs and their stomachs, our average-weight testers felt the mattress provided a good balance of support and softness.

Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.

Though our heavyweight sleep testers were less enthusiastic about the Natural Bliss Mattress than our lightweight and average-weight testers were, they still gave it strong marks across the board.

For our heavyweight sleep testers, all three sleep positions were approximately equally comfortable. Side sleepers enjoyed contouring and pressure relief, while back sleepers and stomach sleepers enjoyed sturdy support.

Sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds often benefit from a thicker, firmer mattress to provide extra support.

The extra-firm 8-inch option and the medium-firm 10-inch option were the best fits for our heavyweight sleep testers. The extra-firm 8-inch version of the mattress provides the firmness our heavyweight testers prefer but they felt it was a little too thin to provide the level of support they would like. The medium-firm 10-inch option provided the extra thickness they were looking for, but the mattress wasn’t quite as firm as they would have liked, allowing their midsections to sink in more deeply than they felt would be ideal for proper spinal alignment.

Since latex tends to recover quickly, heavyweight sleepers may appreciate the mattress’s ability to resist indentations and regain its shape.

How Does the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress Compare to Other Beds?

PlushBeds Natural Bliss vs. PlushBeds Botanical Bliss

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss is the other all-latex model by PlushBeds. While both mattresses are constructed of natural materials, the Botanical Bliss uses organic materials, including the latex. The Botanical Bliss also uses a layer of wool as a fire barrier and for extra cushioning and temperature regulation, while the Natural Bliss uses no animal products.

The Botanical Bliss currently offers fewer firmness options than the Natural Bliss, but the precise firmness may be easier to customize. Both mattresses allow sleepers to unzip the cover to reposition the latex layers to adjust the feel. Since each Botanical Bliss Mattress is constructed of multiple layers of latex foam that are either 2 or 3 inches thick, most thickness options offer more possible configurations.

Both mattresses come in three thickness options. The Natural Bliss’s thickness options are 6 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches, while the Botanical Bliss comes in 9 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches. This may make the Natural Bliss a good match for customers looking for a low- or average-profile mattress and the Botanical Bliss better for customers seeking an average- or high-profile mattress.

H4 PlushBeds Natural Bliss vs. PlushBeds Luxury Bliss

The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress pairs a latex comfort layer with a support core of pocketed coils. This coil layer provides extra bounce and edge support, while the Natural Bliss’s all-latex construction makes it slightly quieter.

The Luxury Bliss comes in just one thickness: 12 inches. Sleepers who prefer a low- or average-profile model may prefer the thinner options of the Natural Bliss.

The Natural Bliss offers four firmness options, while the Luxury Bliss offers two. The Natural Bliss’s extra firmness options may make it popular with sleepers looking for an exceptionally soft or firm mattress.

Our sleep testers from different weight groups rated the Luxury Bliss slightly higher than the Natural Bliss for virtually all sleep positions, so it may be an exceptional choice for couples with different sleep preferences.

H4 PlushBeds Natural Bliss vs. Zenhaven

The Zenhaven Mattress is a flippable latex model, giving sleepers two firmness options in one mattress. One side has a medium-soft feel, while the other side is firm. These options are relatively close to the firmnesses of the soft and extra-firm versions of the Natural Bliss Mattress.

One of the Zenhaven’s biggest strengths is the zoned construction of the comfort layers. The area under the sleeper’s midsection is firmer to provide extra support and softer in other areas. Our sleep testers felt that this construction provided extra pressure relief.

The Zenhaven Mattress uses a layer of organic New Zealand wool on each side of the mattress, which acts as a flame-retardant barrier while also offering breathability and moisture-wicking. Sleepers who avoid wool may prefer the plant-based fire barrier of the Natural Bliss.

While our sleep testers from all weight groups gave both the Natural Bliss and Zenhaven strong marks across sleep positions, our back sleepers favored the Zenhaven.

PlushBeds Natural Bliss vs. Sleep on Latex

The Sleep on Latex Mattress, also called the Pure Green Natural Latex Mattress, is another all-latex model with similar thickness and firmness options. The Natural Bliss comes in three thicknesses: 6 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches. Sleep on Latex offers a 6-inch and 8-inch version. Similarly, the Natural Bliss offers a soft, medium, medium-firm, and extra-firm mattress, while the Sleep on Latex offers soft, medium, and firm versions.

The Sleep on Latex Mattress uses exclusively Dunlop latex, while the 8-inch and 10-inch versions of the Natural Bliss Mattress use Talalay latex comfort layers. The Talalay comfort layers give the 8-inch and 10-inch versions of the Natural Bliss Mattress a slightly bouncier feel.

While our side and back sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds gave the Sleep on Latex Mattress higher ratings, our average-weight testers, heavy-weight testers, and lightweight stomach sleepers preferred the Natural Bliss.

Read our complete Sleep on Latex Mattress Review

PlushBeds Natural Bliss vs. EcoCloud

Like the 8-inch and 10-inch versions of the Natural Bliss Mattress, the EcoCloud Mattress uses Talalay latex in its comfort layer. However, the support layer of the EcoCloud Mattress uses pocketed coils, whereas the Natural Bliss uses Dunlop latex.

While the Natural Bliss Mattress offers multiple thickness and firmness options, the EcoCloud comes in just one thickness and firmness. At 13 inches thick, it is a high-profile model and may require extra deep sheets. It is medium-firm, so it falls right around the range that most sleepers prefer. Sleepers who like softer or firmer mattresses may prefer the Natural Bliss.

The comfort layer of the EcoCloud Mattress is zoned for targeted support and pressure relief. The Natural Bliss’s comfort layer is not zoned, but our testers rated both mattresses well in pressure relief.

The coil support core gives the EcoCloud Mattress extra bounce, temperature neutrality, and edge support. However, our testers rated the Natural Bliss higher for noise, durability, and off-gassing. Both mattresses offer distinct advantages that may appeal to different sleepers.

PlushBeds Natural Bliss vs. EcoSleep

Produced by Brooklyn Bedding, the EcoSleep Mattress is a flippable hybrid. The mattress has a medium-firm (6) side and a firm (7) side. While this can accommodate many sleepers, sleepers who prefer a softer or firmer option may look to the Natural Bliss.

The EcoSleep’s layer of pocketed coils also sets it apart from the Natural Bliss. This coil layer gives the bed additional edge support, bounce, and temperature regulation. However, our testers thought the Natural Bliss’s all-foam construction lent to a better performance in noise and off-gassing.

Since both sides of the EcoSleep are relatively firm, our sleep testers who weigh under 130 pounds preferred the soft version of the Natural Bliss Mattress to the EcoSleep Mattress. Our stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds also preferred the Natural Bliss Mattress, but our side and back sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds preferred the firm side of the EcoSleep.
