How Is the Casper Nova Hybrid Constructed?
Cover
The top portion of the Nova Hybrid’s cover is constructed from a blend of polyester, cotton, rayon, and spandex. This material has a very soft and elastic feel. The side panels are made from polyester and polypropylene. The cover is not removable. If stains occur, Casper recommends spot-cleaning the fabric.
Comfort Layers
The Nova Hybrid’s comfort layer consists of AirScape open-cell polyfoam. This material conforms to the body very closely. However, it is also more responsive than memory foam and sleepers may notice a light bounce on the surface. AirScape polyfoam does not absorb too much body heat, allowing the mattress to sleep fairly cool.
Transitional Layer
The Nova Hybrid’s main transitional layer is made from Zoned Support Pro polyfoam. This material is designed to feel firmer around the lower back, hips, and other heavier areas that require more support while maintaining a softer feel for the head, neck, and shoulders. An additional convoluted polyfoam layer reinforces the Zoned Support Pro and promotes extra airflow.
Transitional layers essentially serve as buffers for the support core. They prevent sleepers from sinking too deeply and coming into contact with the firmer, denser base materials.
Support Layers
The Nova Hybrid has a support core constructed with pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. This base layer stabilizes the entire bed very well to keep sleepers on an even plane and protect the edges from deep sinkage. The coils also promote steady airflow to keep the mattress cool.
Mattress Height
The Nova Hybrid measures 12 inches tall, making it a high-profile mattress. The mattress offers a strong coil system without sacrificing comfort layer thickness. This results in a bed that supports the sleeper while still conforming quite closely to their body.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
The Nova Hybrid has a medium soft (4) feel. The mattress conforms very closely for a hybrid, and this can be attributed to its ultra-plush comfort layer and zoned transitional foam. Sleepers will feel as though they are sleeping “in” the mattress, as opposed to sleeping “on” the surface, but the coils offer a bit of responsiveness, as well.
Some people enjoy this body-cradling sensation. For others, sinking deeply into the mattress can be uncomfortable. The latter is particularly true for heavier back and stomach sleepers.

Next, let’s take an in-depth look at our performance ratings for the Nova Hybrid. Each rating is based on findings from our internal and external testing teams.
Durability
The Nova Hybrid debuted in March 2020. Because this model is so new, we have not had enough time to test it against the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating for the Nova Hybrid is based on other factors, such as quality of design and Casper’s reputation as a mattress brand.
We expect the Nova Hybrid to perform for seven to seven and a half years before a replacement is needed. This expected lifespan, which is longer than average for a hybrid, can be attributed to the bed’s high-quality materials. The zoned transitional layer and foam-encased coils should provide great stability over time. That said, its softer comfort layer will be more susceptible to deep body impressions – especially as the mattress nears the end of its lifespan.
Owners can minimize impressions to an extent by rotating their mattress head-to-foot every three to six months.
Motion Isolation
To evaluate the Nova Hybrid for motion isolation, we asked two testers to lie down next to one another on the mattress. One tester moved around while the other felt for their movement transferring across the surface. During these tests, the Nova Hybrid demonstrated very good motion isolation. The plush comfort foam eliminated most transfer despite a bit of responsiveness from the coils.
Hybrids can be somewhat iffy when it comes to motion isolation due to their coils, many of which create a noticeable bounce on the surface. Hybrids with softer feels – like this model – tend to perform much better in this category than their firmer competitors.
Off-Gassing
Our testers detected some faint off-gassing when unboxing the Nova Hybrid, but most of the odor has cleared out when they re-evaluated the mattress a few days later. The open-cell comfort layer has a fairly low density, so it won’t produce as many smells as high-density foam. Air currents in the coil layer also help to rid the mattress of bothersome odors.
Pressure Relief
To evaluate the Nova Hybrid for pressure relief, our testers took turns lying on the mattress with a sensory pad to track pressure buildup in different areas of the body. They also switched positions to see if pressure increased or decreased on their sides, back, and stomach.
Pressure relief is a key strength of the Nova Hybrid. The soft comfort layer contours very closely to support the spine, cushion the shoulders and hips, and reduce pressure throughout the body. Heavier people may sink too deeply and experience added discomfort as a result, but most sleepers who weigh 230 pounds or less feel less pressure on this mattress.
Temperature Neutrality
Most hybrids deliver above-average temperature neutrality, but the Nova Hybrid still sleeps cooler than most. Its breathable, open-cell comfort layer won’t absorb too much body heat while the coils circulate steady air currents to help the entire mattress stay cool. We recommend this mattress for anyone who sleeps hot, particularly if they have felt too warm on other hybrid models.
Edge Support
Our testers evaluated the Nova Hybrid for edge support by sitting along the perimeter as an owner might do when getting in and out of bed. They also took turns lying near the edges to check for feelings of “roll-off.”
The pocketed coils encased in polyfoam provide strong reinforcement for the Nova Hybrid’s perimeter. The testers noticed some sinkage when sitting or lying near the edges – this was especially true for those who weigh more than 230 pounds – but overall, the mattress feels fairly stable.
Noise
Our testers did not notice any noises during their evaluations for the Nova Hybrid. The coils may begin to squeak a bit as the mattress ages, but pocketed coils tend to be much quieter than other coil types. The lack of noise coupled with above-average motion isolation makes the Nova Hybrid very well-suited to couples.
Sex
The Nova Hybrid feels quite soft, and it may not be responsive enough for couples who enjoy sex on bouncy surfaces. The moderate edge support may also prevent some couples from using the entire surface of the mattress. However, the deeply conforming foam offers excellent traction. The coils are very discreet, as well.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, our team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
Our lightweight sleep testers found the Nova Hybrid very comfortable. This was especially true among side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. This sleep position often requires ample cushioning beneath the shoulders and hips to align the sleeper’s spine and alleviate pressure. Our lightweight back sleepers also gave the mattress favorable ratings. The foam layers conform to a comfortable extent while the coils offer even, sag-free support.
Stomach sleepers felt a bit of sagging beneath their hips, but they still felt reasonably comfortable on the mattress. The zoned transitional layer plays a key role here. Without enhanced support for the midsection, most stomach sleepers would sink too deeply into the Nova Hybrid.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
Our average weight sleep testers were a bit more divided about the Nova Hybrid, but their overall ratings were positive. Side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds found the mattress most comfortable. Like their lighter counterparts, these sleepers experienced deep conforming, even spinal alignment, and pressure relief throughout the body. Back sleepers mostly agreed with this assessment, though some noted sagging around the midsection.
Average weight stomach sleepers experienced more sinking and felt less comfortable as a result. However, the zoned transitional layer made a noticeable difference for some.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Our heavier sleep testers did not feel as comfortable on the Nova Hybrid as those who weigh 230 pounds or less, but their ratings were still somewhat positive. Our side sleepers appreciated the extra cushioning for their shoulders and hips, and back sleepers felt adequate support as the foam conformed to their body.
Stomach sleepers in this weight group did not feel as secure on the mattress. They sank deeply and some felt very unstable lying or sitting on the edges. Those who use this position and weigh at least 130 pounds often need extra support. Most people carry a fair amount of weight in their stomach and sleeping face-down can cause excessive sagging.

How Does the Casper Nova Hybrid Compare to Other Beds?
When shopping for a new mattress, it’s important to compare different brands and models in order to find a bed that meets your specific needs. In the next section, we’ll see how the Nova Hybrid stacks up to other Casper models and some similarly constructed mattresses from competing brands.
Casper Nova Hybrid vs. Casper Hybrid
The Casper Hybrid is a spin-off of the flagship Casper mattress. This hybrid model contains comfort layers of polyfoam and memory foam over foam-encased pocketed coils. The Casper Hybrid feels a bit firmer than the Nova Hybrid on its surface and the top polyfoam layer has a slightly responsive feel. However, the Casper Hybrid still conforms quite closely.
The Casper Hybrid’s medium (5.5) feel makes it a bit better suited for heavier sleepers than the Nova Hybrid, but both beds will probably feel too soft for those who weigh more than 230 pounds. Apart from firmness differences, these mattresses are fairly similar. Both sleep very cool, alleviate pressure very well, and offer better-than-average motion isolation. One key difference: edge support is a bit stronger for the Nova Hybrid.
The Casper Hybrid, which has a below-average price-point, costs considerably less than the relatively expensive Nova Hybrid. Shoppers on a budget may choose the Casper Mattress for this reason alone, but the Nova Hybrid offers closer conforming and more pressure relief for lighter individuals.

Casper Nova Hybrid vs. Casper Wave Hybrid
Among Casper’s current lineup, the Casper Wave Hybrid is most similar to the Nova Hybrid. Each bed has a medium soft feel. The Wave Hybrid is slightly firmer, but both conform very closely to create a feeling of sleeping “in” – not “on” – the mattress. The Wave Hybrid features comfort layers of polyfoam, memory foam, and blended latex, along with a zoned transitional layer and pocketed coil support core.
The Wave Hybrid is a bit more responsive due to its latex layer, but otherwise these two models are a toss-up in terms of comfort and support. Both offer excellent pressure relief for sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds, but tend to feel too firm for heavier people. They also isolate motion exceptionally well for hybrid models and sleep very cool.
Prices for these models are also comparable. The Wave Hybrid is slightly more expensive but this model qualifies for free White Glove delivery anywhere in the contiguous U.S. This service, which includes in-home mattress assembly and old mattress removal, may be enough to sway some buyers into spending a bit more.

Casper Nova Hybrid vs. Nectar Mattress
The Nectar Mattress, like the Nova Hybrid, is an excellent choice for people who enjoy the feeling of sleeping “in” their mattress. This model is constructed with two memory foam comfort layers, as well as a memory foam transitional layer. These components contour to the sleeper’s body very closely.
The Nectar Mattress has a medium firm (6) feel, but its pressure-relieving abilities are comparable to the Nova Hybrid’s. That said, people who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds will likely feel more comfortable on the Nectar Mattress, whereas people below 130 pounds may prefer the softer Nova Hybrid instead. The Nova Hybrid does sleep a bit cooler, but the Nectar has breathable, low-density comfort layers that absorb a low amount of body heat.
The Nectar Mattress costs much less than the Nova Hybrid. For shoppers with more flexible budgets, their decision should come down to their desired firmness level and whether or not they sleep excessively hot.

Casper Nova Hybrid vs. Purple Mattress
The Purple Mattress features a proprietary comfort layer known as the ‘Purple Grid,’ which is constructed from hyperelastic polymer material molded into a grid shape. The bed’s base layer is made of high-density polyfoam. The Purple Grid contours to the body much like memory foam, but it also has a latex-like responsiveness. The grid material sleeps exceptionally cool, as well.
The Purple Mattress has a medium firm (6.5) feel, so lighter sleepers may feel less comfortable but those who weigh 130 to 230 pounds will probably prefer the balance of conforming and support. Edge support is another factor to consider. The Nova Hybrid may sink a bit along the perimeter, but the Purple Mattress is prone to deep sagging when owners get in and out of bed.
The Purple Mattress is fairly inexpensive, given its innovative design. The Nova Hybrid offers a deeper body cradle that may appeal more to lighter people and side sleepers, while the firmer Purple Mattress provides more support to heavier back and stomach sleepers.

Casper Nova Hybrid vs. T&N Original Mattress
The T&N Original Mattress from Tuft & Needle is an all-polyfoam mattress. The comfort layer is infused with graphite, while the support core contains high-density foam for extra stability. The T&N Original Mattress has a medium firm (6.5) feel, so it won’t conform as closely as the Nova Hybrid. It also feels a bit more responsive on the surface.
Both mattresses also isolate motion very well – not enough to completely eliminate transfer, but either bed should reduce nighttime disruptions for couples. Each bed also sleeps fairly cool. In terms of temperature neutrality, the T&N Original Mattress may absorb more body heat, but the comfort layer’s open-cell construction and graphite infusion can help cool off the surface to a noticeable extent. Still, the Nova Hybrid sleeps much cooler.
The Nova Hybrid’s price-point is much higher than that of the T&N Original Mattress, and many shoppers will choose the latter based solely on cost. However, the Nova Hybrid offers a more comfortable surface for lighter people and side sleepers, and also provides better temperature neutrality.

- UPS Ground is used for Casper deliveries. Most customers will receive their Casper mattress within two to five business days of the original purchase, depending on their location.
- Free standard shipping is offered to all customers in the contiguous U.S. and parts of Canada. Additional fees may apply for Hawaii and Alaska. For Canadian customers, additional fees may apply for Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut. Customers in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are eligible for same-day courier deliveries.

Trial Period and Warranty Details
Trial Period and Guarantee
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial for all mattress models.
- This trial does not require a break-in period of any kind. Owners may elect to return the mattress and receive a full refund, including shipping fees, at any point during the sleep trial.
- Casper will arrange for couriers to come pick up the mattress from the owner’s home, at which time it will either be recycled or donated to charity.
- Customers who purchase their Casper mattress from Amazon.com will also be eligible for the 100-night trial.
Warranty
Casper offers a 10-year non-prorated warranty for the Nova Hybrid:
- Warranty coverage kicks in on the original mattress purchase date.
- During the warranty coverage period, Casper will replace or repair a defective mattress. Casper will cover fees for returning a defective mattress to the company, but the owner will be required to pay fees for having a replaced or repaired mattress shipped back to them.
- Mattress owners must pay the difference if their defective mattress is replaced with an upgrade model.
- In the event that a defective mattress is repaired or replaced with the same mattress model, the original warranty coverage will continue. If the mattress is replaced with an upgrade, then a new warranty will be issued beginning on the date that the upgrade is purchased.
- The warranty will be voided if the owner does not provide a proper foundation to support the mattress. According to Casper, proper foundation options include the following: a foundation and modern box spring with wooden slats that are no more than 4 inches apart; a flat platform bed; or a slatted base made of wood with slats that are no more than 4 inches apart.
- The warranty will cover body impressions in the sleep surface measuring 1 inch or deeper despite proper use and handling. The warranty also covers physical flaws that cause mattress materials to split or crack, and manufacturing defects associated with the mattress cover.
- The warranty does not cover impressions measuring less than 1 inch deep. Additional defects not covered under warranty include physical damage such as burns and stains, and comfort issues that arise due to normal wear and tear or changes in the owner’s mattress preferences.
- The warranty is exclusively available to the original purchaser of the mattress. Anyone who purchases or acquires this mattress second-hand does so ‘as is’, and will not be eligible for warranty coverage.
