How Is the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove Constructed?
Cover
The Crystal Cove’s cover is made from a blend of 77 percent polyester, 22 percent cotton and 1 percent spandex. The cover is not removable. Brentwood Home recommends certain natural cleaning options if staining occurs.
Comfort Layers
The Crystal Cove is a flippable mattress with two different sleep surfaces. One side is constructed with 1 inch of 4 PCF ‘Flow Foam’ polyfoam, followed by a second 2-inch comfort layer of 4 PCF charcoal-infused memory foam. These materials have medium densities. They conform fairly closely to the body, and will not absorb as much body heat from sleepers as high-density foam.
The other side of the mattress features 2 inches of natural latex. This sleep surface feels firmer and more responsive than the foam side. The latex is also ventilated to promote airflow and help the mattress sleep cooler.
Support Layers
Both of the Crystal Cove’s comfort layers share the same support core, which consists of 8-inch pocketed coils. This layer is zoned with thicker low-gauge coils to support the shoulders, back, and hips, while thinner coils cradle the sleeper’s lighter areas. Low-gauge coils also line the perimeter to prevent significant sinkage when people sit along the mattress edges.
Mattress Height
The Crystal Cove measures 13 inches thick, making it a high-profile mattress. This above-average height provides sufficient space for a robust support core and 2 to 3 inches of comfort layer material. As a result, the mattress feels very supportive and responsive but also provides close body-conforming and above-average pressure relief, especially on the foam side.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
Each sleep surface of the Crystal Cove flippable mattress has a distinct feel. The polyfoam and memory foam side is medium-soft (4.5). These materials conform very closely to the sleeper’s body to alleviate pressure points. The foams also cushion the shoulders and hips, which can improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
The latex side is medium-firm (6.5). Latex is naturally responsive, which gives this sleep surface a noticeable bounce, and the material does not conform as closely as the foams found on the other side. As a result, the latex side feels more like sleeping “on” – as opposed to sleeping “in” – the mattress, while the polyfoam and memory foam side offers a balance of sleeping “on” and sleeping “in.”
Ratings Breakdown
Performance Ratings
Next, let’s take a closer look at our performance ratings for the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove. Each rating is based on findings from our internal and external testing teams, along with experiences from verified mattress owners.
Durability
Since the Crystal Cove was first released in 2018, we have not had enough time to test this model against the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating is based on the bed’s quality of materials and construction, owner experiences, and Brentwood Home’s overall reputation.
We estimate the Crystal Cove will perform for about seven to seven and a half years before a replacement mattress is needed. This expected lifespan is longer than average for a hybrid model. Thick support coils ensure very good stability and minimal sinkage along the edges. The latex comfort layer is also fairly durable and should withstand major deterioration until the mattress nears the end of its lifespan.
However, the polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers are more susceptible to sagging and body impressions. These materials have medium densities, and will likely deteriorate faster than higher-density foams.
To help preserve this side of the mattress, Brentwood Home recommends rotating the Crystal Cove head-to-foot every month for the first six months, followed by rotations every six months for the remainder of the bed’s lifespan. In addition to regular rotations, primarily sleeping on the latex side may help extend the bed’s overall lifespan.
Motion Isolation
To evaluate the Crystal Cove for motion isolation, we asked two of our testers to lie side-by-side on the mattress. One tester moved around while the other felt for motion transferring across the bed’s surface.
During these tests, the mattress demonstrated very good motion isolation. This was particularly true for the polyfoam and memory foam side. These materials absorb motion and minimize transfer very well. The latex side is more responsive. This material reduces transfer fairly well, but sleepers may still notice some motion.
Off-Gassing
Our testers noticed some off-gassing odor when unboxing the Crystal Cove. However, these smells had mostly dissipated when they re-evaluated the mattress a few days later. Strong airflow through the coil and ventilated latex layers should clear out unwanted odor fairly quickly, and we don’t foresee any major off-gassing issues with this mattress.
Pressure Relief
Our testers evaluated the Crystal Cove for pressure relief by lying on sensory pads that monitor pressure build-up in the shoulders, hips, and other sensitive areas of the body. The testers also switched sleep positions to see if pressure increased or decreased when lying on their sides, back, and stomach.
The polyfoam and memory foam side conforms very closely due to this sleep surface’s medium-soft feel. As a result, most sleepers weighing 230 pounds or less report very good pressure relief. Thanks to ample cushioning under the shoulders and hips, side sleepers also experience better spinal alignment.
The latex sleep surface also conforms to the body, albeit less so. This makes the latex side better suited for individuals who prefer some body-conforming and pressure relief, but more overall support from the mattress.
Temperature Neutrality
Temperature neutrality is one of the Crystal Cove’s greatest strengths. The shared coil support layer promotes steady airflow to help the mattress maintain a comfortable temperature, and the ventilated latex provides added breathability. The medium-density polyfoam and memory foam layers also absorb a minimal amount of body heat.
Edge Support
To evaluate the Crystal Cove for edge support, our testers sat along the perimeter of the mattress as an owner might do when getting in and out of bed. There was more sinkage on the memory foam side than on the latex side, but the 8-inch pocketed coils reinforce both sleep surfaces very well.
Testers also took turns lying near the edges of the mattress to check for feelings of “roll-off,” which normally occur with softer, less supportive beds. Again, the testers felt more secure on the latex side but both sides felt fairly stable, even when switching positions.
Noise
The Crystal Cove contains pocketed coils, which tend to produce less noise than other coil types. Our testers did not notice much noise when evaluating the mattress. Over time, the coils may become louder, but the Crystal Cove’s long-term noise potential is still fairly low.
Sex
Each side of the Crystal Cove offers certain advantages during sex. The polyfoam and memory foam side conforms more closely. This ensures great traction, but the materials may also make it more difficult for couples to change positions. The latex side is firmer and more responsive, allowing couples to use the entire surface of the bed. Additionally, the relatively quiet pocketed coils make the mattress discreet for sex.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness settings for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, the team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
Our lightweight sleep testers felt very comfortable on the Crystal Cove’s polyfoam and memory foam side. Thanks to its medium-soft feel, this sleep surface conforms very closely to alleviate pressure points and improve spinal alignment for side sleepers.
Back sleepers also experienced a good balance of contouring and support. Stomach sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds also liked the Crystal Cove’s foam side, but they noted some sagging around the midsection.
The firmer latex side was not as comfortable for these testers. Typically, lightweight individuals prefer beds with soft to medium-soft firmnesses because they conform more closely to reduce pressure in sensitive areas.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
Our average weight testers also gave positive ratings to the Crystal Cove, but they were somewhat mixed about which side was more comfortable. Side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds preferred the polyfoam and memory foam side due to its extra cushioning beneath the shoulders and hips.
Back sleepers, on the other hand, experienced better support and more pressure relief on the firmer latex side. For stomach sleepers, the latex side was also more comfortable – though there was a bit of sagging around the midsection.
People in the average weight group tend to prefer medium-soft to medium-firm mattresses. Softer beds often sag too much, whereas firmer models may not conform closely enough to provide even support or alleviate enough pressure. Since the Crystal Cove has medium-soft and medium-firm sleep surfaces, it is very well suited to sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds – especially if their firmness preferences vary from night to night.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Our heavyweight testers were more divided about the Crystal Cove. Side and back sleepers both gave the mattress very good ratings, noting that the latex side offered strong support and did not sag too much. The polyfoam and memory foam side is more prone to deep sinking for people in this weight group, and this can affect how supportive the mattress feels.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers did not feel as comfortable on the Crystal Cove. Even on the firmer latex side, they reported significant sagging around the midsection – a common issue associated with this sleep position. Many heavier people carry a substantial amount of weight in their stomachs, and sleeping face-down can cause the entire body to sink too deeply. This may lead to added aches and pains, particularly in the neck and shoulders.

This coil-on-coil design ensures exceptional responsiveness, very strong edge support, and consistent temperature neutrality thanks to strong internal airflow.
The Oceano, like the Crystal Cove, conforms fairly closely while maintaining even support. This creates a balanced feeling of both sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the mattress. The Oceano’s thick support system also provides better support to minimize sagging around the midsection for stomach sleepers.
The Oceano is slightly more expensive, but both models have below-average prices compared to other hybrids. Sleepers who prefer the conforming feel of memory foam over the responsiveness of latex may want to consider the Oceano, while the flippable Crystal Cove is a great option for those who enjoy sleeping on both of these materials.

Brentwood Home Crystal Cove vs. Awara
The Awara Mattress is a high-profile hybrid constructed with a 4-inch latex comfort layer and 9-inch pocketed coils. These components make the mattress highly responsive and provide a floating feeling of sleeping “on” – and not “in” – the mattress. This contrasts with both sides of the Crystal Cove, which offer a combination of sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the bed.
Like the Crystal Cove, the Awara Mattress excels at edge support. Thanks to its breathable latex layer and strong airflow through the pocketed coils, the Awara Mattress also sleeps exceptionally cool. As a medium-firm model, the mattress conforms to a minimal extent and does not alleviate pressure as well as the Crystal Cove. Motion isolation is better for the Crystal Cove, as well.

Brentwood Home Crystal Cove vs. Bear Hybrid
The Bear Hybrid is constructed with polyfoam comfort layers and 8-inch pocketed coils, resulting in a medium-firm feel. Another standout feature of the mattress is its cover made of Celliant fabric, an innovative material intended to convert body heat into infrared energy and transmit it back into the sleeper through their skin. This process can increase tissue oxygenation, promote muscle recovery, and regulate body temperature.
Like the Crystal Cove, the Bear Hybrid promotes strong airflow through the coil layer in order to remain temperature-neutral. However, the Crystal Cove offers better edge support due to its zoned pocketed coils. In other performance categories, such as durability and pressure relief, both models have earned comparable ratings.

Like the Crystal Cove, the EcoSleep Hybrid from Brooklyn Bedding is a flippable mattress model. Both sides are constructed with natural latex comfort layers. One sleep surface is medium-firm, while the other is firm. The bed’s shared support core consists of 6-inch pocketed coils.
People who prefer sleeping on latex will probably prefer the EcoSleep Hybrid, but this flippable mattress is more limited in terms of firmness range. The Crystal Cove offers a wider selection thanks to its medium-soft and medium-firm sleep surfaces, as well as different material compositions for each comfort layer.
For other performance categories – such as durability, temperature neutrality, and edge support – the EcoSleep Hybrid and Crystal Cove have received similar ratings from our testing teams.

Full Delivery Policy
The delivery policy for Brentwood Home is as follows:
- In addition to free curbside delivery from FedEx, Brentwood Home offers White Glove delivery for $199. This service includes in-home mattress assembly and setup. For an additional $76 ($275 total), delivery personnel will remove the customer’s old mattress.
- Most mattresses ship from the factory within three to five business days of the original order. Once they ship, FedEx deliveries usually reach their destination within seven to 14 business days, while White Glove deliveries usually occur within 14 to 21 business days.
- Brentwood Home does not ship mattresses outside of the contiguous U.S.

Trial Period and Warranty Details
Trial Period and Guarantee: Brentwood Home offers a 365-night sleep trial for the Crystal Cove.
- This sleep trial includes a mandatory 30-night break-in period. Customers cannot return their mattress for a refund until at least 30 nights have elapsed.
- The sleep trial begins on the delivery date.
- Each individual household is allotted a total of two mattress sleep trials.
Warranty: Brentwood Home offers a 25-year warranty:
- This warranty is partially prorated. During years 1 to 10, Brentwood Home will repair or replace defective mattresses for free; owners must cover associated shipping and transportation charges. During years 11 to 20, owners pay a prorated fee for mattress replacements that amounts to 50% of the original product price, plus an additional 5% for each successive year (50% in year 11, 55% in year 12, etc). During years 21 to 25, owners pay a flat prorated replacement charge of 95% of the original product price.
- The warranty will be voided if mattresses are not removed from their box within two weeks of delivery.
- The warranty will cover indentations and sagging in the sleep surface measuring 2 inches or deeper. The warranty also covers material or cosmetic defects not related to normal wear and tear that affect how the mattress performs.
- The warranty does not cover sagging or indentations measuring less than 2 inches. Additionally, the warranty does not cover repair or replacement requests that occur due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences, or physical damage such as burns, cuts, or stains.
- This warranty is non-transferable. It is exclusively available to original owners who purchase their mattress from Brentwood Home or an authorized retailer. Those who buy or acquire their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized seller will not qualify for warranty coverage.
