Sleep Position Ratings
DreamCloud
The DreamCloud has a ‘Medium Firm’ surface that conforms to a moderate but consistent extent. This makes the mattress suitable for most back and stomach sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds, as well as side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. Lighter individuals may find the DreamCloud too firm; this can minimize the bed’s conforming and pressure-relieving properties. Additionally, the mattress has a 15-inch profile that is ideal for larger people, but this factor could make getting in and out of bed difficult for lighter individuals.
Purple Hybrid
Back sleepers off all weights will likely find the Purple Hybrid’s ‘Medium Firm’ surface comfortable. This firmness is also suitable for side, back, and stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 – 230 pounds. Lighter people – particularly side sleepers seeking better spinal alignment – may find the Purple Hybrid Premier to be more comfortable, since that model is available in ‘Medium’ and ‘Medium Soft’ firmness settings. It’s important to note that all of Purple’s models have thicker-than-average profiles.

How Is the DreamCloud Built?
The DreamCloud’s construction is much more sophisticated than that of the average hybrid mattress. In addition to a hand-tufted cashmere Euro-top cover that offers 2 inches of cushioning, the bed has comfort layers of gel-infused memory foam, quilted memory foam, natural latex, and standard memory foam. These layers create a ‘Medium Firm’ feel that conforms moderately yet consistently. The support core features foam-encased pocketed coils buffered with high-density memory foam transitional and base layers. The coils are zoned to provide more support to the sleeper’s heaviest areas, such as the shoulders and hips.
The DreamCloud sleeps exceptionally cool even by hybrid standards, due in part to its breathable cashmere cover, gel-infused top layer, and strong airflow through the coils. The foam encasement around the support core also helps prevent sagging. The DreamCloud also isolates motion fairly well compared to other hybrids, and its noise potential is minimal. At 94 pounds in a Queen size, it is fairly light for a hybrid as well.
How Is the Purple Hybrid Built?
The Smart Grid comfort layer found in the Purple Hybrid mattress features buckling-column gel evenly distributed over an elastic polymer grid. This material cushions the sleeper’s body and conforms consistently to alleviate pressure and discomfort, much like memory foam or latex, but the polymer grid is highly durable and less vulnerable to early wear and tear. The thickness of the Smart Grid is 2 inches. The support core is constructed with pocketed coils.
The Purple Hybrid is one of the best beds on the market today for temperature neutrality. The coils promote strong airflow while the Smart Grid also offers great circulation, resulting in cool and comfortable sleep for most. The Purple Hybrid also offers better-than-average motion isolation and does not make much noise — both of these factors can benefit couples who awaken easily during the night.
